What is Joaju?

Joaju is a curated guide to businesses, services, and resources in Asuncion for expats and locals.

We centralize information currently scattered across Facebook posts, WhatsApp chats, and word-of-mouth into a searchable, organized, persistent resource.

The Name

Joaju (pronounced "zho-ah-ZHOO") is a Guarani word meaning mutual unity — from jo- (reciprocal) and aju (arriving). It captures the idea of people coming together, arriving at the same place in mutual support. Guarani is one of Paraguay's two official languages, spoken by roughly 87% of the population. Using a Guarani word reflects our connection to Paraguay's unique cultural identity.
